Olympia Odos Motorway (Greece): 3 Lane-Cover Tunnels

Project Description
Special seismic design of 3 lane cover tunnels against large tectonic deformation. The motorway is crossing an area of very high seismicity full of active seismic faults. The lane cover tunnels were designed for faulting deformation of 30 to 50 cm, employing an innovative design method.

Duration: 2014, 2009-2011

Kamena Vourla Bypass (Greece): 5 Cut-and-Cover Tunnels

Project Description
Special seismic design of 5 cut-an-cover tunnels against strong seismic shaking and large tectonic deformation. Crossed by the notorious Kamena Vourla fault, the tunnels had to be designed for 2 m faulting deformation.

Opening Ceremony Shaft, Olympic Stadium (Athens, Greece)

Project Description
Design of temporary retaining support of a deep 25 m shaft, constructed at the centre of the Olympic Stadium of Athens for the Opening Ceremony of the 2004 Olympic Games.

Rion-Antirrion Immersed Tunnel (Greece)

Project Description
Special seismic design of and undersea railway tunnel, crossing the 2 km long and 70 m deep Rion–Antirrion Straits. The conceived 5.4 km tunnel is a hybrid solution, combining a central immersed tunnel with two bored approach tunnels. Crossing the most seismically active area of Europe, the tunnel had to be designed for 2 m tectonic deformation combined with asynchronous seismic shaking. Due to the economic crisis, the tunnel is yet to be constructed.
