Strain Gauges

The working principle of the strain gauges is the relation between the resistance and the strain of electric conductors that was firstly described by William Thomson in 1856. The change of the resistance of the gauges (due to the strain they are subjected to) is measured, and based on calibration curves the strain can be determined.
