Ageing infrastructure calls for retrofit, which can be challenging, costly, and time-consuming, especially when considering pile groups supporting bridges. Rational and optimized retrofit design cannot be performed without realistic evaluation of the actual stiffness and capacity of the existing foundation. In this context, we are currently developing a simplified stiffness estimation method, based on in-situ measurements performed directly on the existing structure to be retrofitted.
